  • What is a Paediatric Occupational Therapist?
Paediatric Occupational therapists work with children and adolescents to help them achieve their daily occupations that may include self-care, school and play. First, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist will provide thorough assessment to identify the key developmental areas that a child requires support with. Following this, they will provide engaging therapy to build on these specific skills to help a child maximise their independence in their occupations. To find out more about Ready Set Grow and our specialist developmental areas, please click Our Services.
  • Where will therapy sessions take place?
Ready Set Grow Perth Kids Therapy (also known as "Ready Set Grow") is a mobile occupational therapy and physiotherapy practice that provides therapy services to children and teens at home, school and in the community. We believe that it is important to teach in these environments to help maximise your child's independence and help facilitate a transfer of these skills from clinical environments to everyday life! It is important that the therapy setting is free from distractions to allow for optimal learning and engagement. During our initial meeting, we can talk about your preference and work together to create a therapy plan that is based around your therapy goals, logistics, travel cost considerations and your child's availability.
  • How long is your therapy waitlist?
At present, there are limited therapy spots. Please register your expression of interest using our online form. You can find our therapy services form by clicking Contact in the menu.
  • How often does my child need to have therapy sessions?
During our initial services meeting, we will discuss the nature of the therapy referral and what your expectations are for your child's schedule of supports. Whether you are looking for longer term therapy services, a smaller therapy block or an OT/ Physio assessment and summary of findings, we can discuss this in detail to ensure we provide your child the appropriate therapy to meet their goals. We also offer school holiday intensive therapy programs for families who preference short therapy blocks during the school holidays. For more information around our specific services, please click on Our Services in the top menu.
  • Can my other child join in with the therapy sessions?
We are flexible around allowing brothers and sisters to engage in therapy sessions. We believe siblings can provide additional opportunities for imitating and practising important skills. If we believe a sibling's attendance in the therapy session is impacting your child's ability to concentrate and engage in the activities, we can discuss this with you to ensure your child receives the most out of their therapy sessions.
  • Do I need to stay with my child during the therapy session?
During our initial services meeting, we will discuss if you believe your child might have difficulty separating from you. It is important that this is discussed so that we can develop a plan to ensure your child is set up for success and build important rapport with the therapist. Once your child is comfortable with the therapist, it is not compulsory for you to participate in the therapy sessions and we happily encourage that you take this time to sip on a tea of coffee, if you would like to do so. Our therapy sessions include 10 minutes of verbal feedback following the session so we would encourage you to be available for the last 10 minutes to receive important information about what activities were conducted and the underlying skills that were of focus. Please note: For children engaging in community visits (e.g., at playground, open park spaces, swimming pools) a parent is required to stay for the whole of the therapy session.
  • When do I need to pay for my child's therapy sessions?
Our therapy services will be discussed with you following our initial services meeting to ensure there is transparency around our occupational therapy/ physiotherapy fees. Following on from your child's occupational therapy/ physiotherapy initial assessment relating to your therapy goals, we will discuss the frequency and prospective therapy costs. For private paying clients, you will be provided with a Ready Set Grow Invoice for services on a weekly basis. For NDIS paying clients (self-managed or plan managed), yourself or your NDIS plan manager will be provided with a Ready Set Grow Invoice for services on a weekly basis.
  • Are your occupational therapy sessions covered by NDIS or private health insurance or medicare?
For NDIS: Ready Set Grow Perth Kids Therapy is not a registered NDIS provider. This means that only self-managed and plan-managed funds can be used to engage in our therapy services. For Private Health insurance: Please contact your health fund and query if you are covered for occupational therapy. For Medicare: You may be able to access therapy through medicare under the Mental Health Care Plan. A referral from your doctor is required. We recommend consulting your GP for more information.
  • Do I need a referral to access occupational therapy/ physiotherapy from Ready Set Grow?
You do not need a doctor's referral to access our services. You only require a referral if you are accessing therapy services under the Mental Health Care Plan.
  • How long are your occupational therapy/ physiotherapy sessions?
We want to ensure that our therapy services are appropriate to your child's needs. Typically, we will provide occupational therapy/ physiotherapy sessions that span an hour, including 50 minutes of direct therapy and 10 minutes of therapy feedback. However, we are happy to discuss this with you if you would like to extend your child's therapy session to be longer.
  • My child is so busy during school term! Do you offer therapy just in the school holidays?
Yes! We offer intensive individual therapy blocks in the school holidays. While the first session includes an occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy assessment, we can then tailor a program to support your child's therapy goals that is also filled with lots of school holiday fun. Please contact us if you are interested in this program.
  • Once I fill out the online form, what happens next?
    1. Referral Phone Discussion Your Ready Set Grow therapist will schedule a time with you for an informal discussion over the phone. This conversation aims to provide you with more specific information about accessing occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy services with Ready Set Grow and to find out what your general therapy priority areas are for your child. This phone call is an important first point of call to ensure we are the best service provider for your therapy needs. 2. Therapy Service Agreement FOR NDIS PARTICIPANTS If we believe we are in the best position to support your child with their therapy goals from a clinical perspective, we will ask to see your NDIS plan or extract particular details from the plan (i.e., your child's NDIS number and the NDIS plan start and end date). We will put together a Therapy Service Agreement to ensure we are on the same page to support your child together. FOR PRIVATE CLIENTS If we believe we are in the best position to support your child with their therapy goals from a clinical perspective, we will discuss our plan for therapy services and develop a Therapy Service Agreement to ensure we are on the same page to support your child together. 3. Signing of Therapy Service Agreement FOR NDIS PARTICIPANTS A service agreement is important so that you can feel empowered about how a therapy service is working to support your child.
